Staff Selection Commission or simply SSC is an Indian organization to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.
This commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training which consists of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations.
The Staff Selection Commission has a nationwide network of 9 Regional/Sub-regional Offices located at Allahabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi & Sub-regional offices located at Chandigarh & Raipur.
The SSC conducts open examinations regularly for posts for which large number of vacancies exist, these are :
Graduate Level- Assistants, Auditors/Jr. Accountants/Upper Division Clerks, Divisional Accountants, Inspectors of Income Tax/Central Excise, Sub-Inspectors in Central Police Organizations (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB) and the CBI, Section Officer (Commercial) and Section Officer (Audit).
Higher Secondary Level- Stenographer Grade `C`, Stenographer Grade `D`, and Lower Division Clerks.(ii)
Direct interviews are held for some posts, called Selection Posts, after inviting applications through advertisements, as and when such vacancies are reported to the Commission. Some of such posts are Statistical Assistant, Store Keeper, Information Assistant, etc.
For SSC- CHSL (Combined higher secondary level) aspiring candidates should not be below 18 years and above 27 years of age.
He/ she should be a minimum class 12th pass or equivalent.
For SCC- CGL (Combined Graduate Level) aspiring candidate should not be below 18 years or above 27 years of age. However the age limit for the post of Statistical Investigator Grade II should not above 26 years and for the post of Assistant /Sub Inspector in CBI, it should not be below 20 years or above 27 years of age.
He/she should have completed graduation from a recognized university or equivalent, except for the following two posts:-
For Compiler: - Bachelors degree with Economics/Statistics/Mathematics as compulsory or elective subject.
For Statistical Investigator Grade-II: - Bachelors degree with Statistics as one of the main subjects OR bachelors degree with mathematics as one of the main subjects OR bachelors degree with Economics or Commerce as one of the main subjects.
